Red Dwarf was not only penetrating the deepest realms of space, the programme was also penetrating deep into ourselves.
In one of the episodes of the BBC TV programme ‘Red Dwarf’ our ‘heroes’ encountered two identical spaceships to their own. These they explored, to find that in one of them was everything about them that was perfect. They found themselves made to a higher order: kind, intelligent, creative, artistic. The TV writers may not have realised it, but they were writing about our Higher Selves: the perfect selves we will one day be when we have spiritually evolved through countless lives. On the other spaceship they came across a crew that embodied all their lower, negative aspects bound up in each character. So we saw their higher selves, which were being created by every good thought and deed, and we saw their lower selves which were being created by all their lowest actions and motivations and thoughts. It was a fine parody of a fundamental truth about ourselves in that when we act and think well, we enable our higher selves to grow. Presumably, all our negative thoughts etc do the same thing in the opposite direction. We are forever only what we do and think and feel. We have huge spiritual responsibilities to ourselves as well as everyone else inour world.
These insights, that were begun by Richard Dell back in the early 1990s, touch on all the most meaningful and indeed important religious and spiritual issues of our times. They are the same now as they were then. These Insights see religion just as firmly grounded in the Earth and in the stars as it is in the spirit and in the heavens. Richard sees no distinction between the material and spiritual realms. ALL is ONE. This comes through so clearly in these Insights, and that is why the environmental movement – our awakening at last to the needs of Gaia, of our planet – is as important as any spiritual quest, as important as all our need for healing, and is and must be an integral part of that holistic oneness that we must achieve in all that we do. It is also why issues such as Black Lives Matter are deeply spiritual. Richard sees inclusivity as being at the core of all our spiritual and religious endeavours. ALL is indeed ONE. And that mantra is the key to humanity’s future evolution: spiritual, social and political.
